En quête de nourriture: étude des thèmes liés aux pique-assiettes (ṭufayliyyūn) dans la littérature d'adab

The party crashers, or parasites (ṭufayliyyūn), are character types very frequently represented in adab literature. The subject of sponging (taṭfīl) is intimately connected with some momentous themes typical of the Arabic-islamic classical culture, as e.g. generosity and misery, hospitality, intelligence, excess. Therefore the image of the ṭufaylī presents different aspects relevant to these themes, some of which are identified and investigated on the basis of literary unities taken from adab texts.
