Los itinerarios de la conquista: el relato de ‛Arīb

In this article, the description by ‛Arīb b. Sa‛īd (10th century) of the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula is reconstructed on the basis of quotations by later authors, especially Ibn al-Šabbāṭ (13th century). Although 'Arib's text itself is lost, these quotations provide a nearly complete transcription of his description of the conquest. In general, ‛Arīb's version is similar to that of al-Rāzī, analyzed in an article recently published in this journal. But the differences between the two narratives are of enough significance to make us consider ‛Arīb's text completely independent from al-Rāzī's.
