The article considers the chapter of Ibn Ḥayyān in the Dhakhīra of Ibn Bassām from two different perspectives. On one hand, it mantains that this is the most important, yet undervalued document on the intellectual biography of Ibn Ḥayyān, on his historical method, as well as on the ideological reasons which brought the Andalusi historian to give a sequel to his history of the Marwanid domination in al-Andalus. On the other hand, it shows the chapter to be a subtle and well argued representation of Ibn Bassām's indictment of Ibn Ḥayyān as a partisan historian.
