The aim of this article is to present a critical edition of the Kitāb Takrīm al-ma´īša bi-taḥrīm al-ḥašīsa by the learned jurist, the Egyptian Sufi Quṭb al-dīn al-Qasṭallānī (614-686/1218-1287). The text is one of the most significant Arabic treatises on the history of drugs in Islam. In an earlier work, I outlined the historic profile of al- Qasṭallānī and analysed the thematic content, sources and transmission of the Takrīm. Consequently, I will limit the current work to a presentation of aspects related to the date when the manuscript used for this edition was written, to the general criteria followed in producing this edition, and to the symbolic conventions applied in this version of the work.
